The Great Birth of Lord Buddha Jujaka Chapter

4 They then gathered together here and there : some on riverbanks, some on landings, other in the alleys or marketplace, waiting to mock, revil and curse Amittada. When she passed by, they shouted"Look at that poor Amittada so young and naive. Let's give her a lesson. she must lern to be tuoth with old Jujaka."
5 the Lord Buddha,Great Teacher of the World, recounted the story in Suttantapitaka, the Book of Discourses, thus: O Ye disciples, in the state of Kalinga, there lived a brahmin by the name of Jujaka. poor and decrepit though he was, young and beautiful Amittada was his spouse. Serving and tending her husband with such devotion, she aroused other, wives to anger by her perfection. They wated for her at the landing and jeered at her as she came to fetch water."So mean to you must your mother have been. Curses upon you must your grandma have showered. Cruelty to you must your father have dealt. To drive you from home must have been your grandpa"s wish. Evil-hearted must your ancestors have been to make you live with a wretched old man. Your body faultless, your flesh attractively ripe sinful must you have been in previous
life.A secret plot They did actually plan, putting their heads together, hand in hand, then forced you to wed the aged man setting a fawn against a tiger. What a laugh. Isn"t it true? so young a girl-a pretty like you, who has just reached the eligible age, became victim of the old folkswicked tricks. Aha! Is it right for a youthful and enchanting beauty, who captivated a man by her looks alone,to have been secretly lured into a marriage with such a dreadful and loathsome old man.Imaging! Look atthe beauty you possess, the beauty that makes a youngman"s heartthrob, Oh! How painful it is for a young girl to be forced to wed that disgusting old man. Look! a young beauty with graceful movement lowered herself, being the aged brahmin's wife. Overwhlmed with curses so humiliating, it's better to die than to stay alive.

Mahajati Kam Luang

Mahajati: The Royal Versionor The Great Birth of Lord Buddha
Jujaka Chapter
( Upon completing his discourse on Entering The forest a Chapter of The Great Birth (or Mahajati),The Lord Buddha proceeded to The Jujaka Chapter )
1 O Ye Bhikkhus, in days long past, in The Kingdom of Kalinga, there lived a Brahmin in the village of Dunnavittha,Jujaka by name, who earned his living by begging for alms in village. Hrahmin Jjaka then set out to seek his fortune. During his long absence, the family spent all his money and felt troubled. When Jujaka returned and asked for his money, the feckless Brahmin family, distressed at not being able to pay their debt, gave Jujaka their daughter, named Amittada, to be his wife.
2 Jujaka thus brought his wife Amittada to his native Brahmin village Dunnavittha, and there they dwelt. Young Amittada proved to be a sweet and faithful wife, never failing to take good care of the household, never minding hard work nor light chores. Ever was she faithful to her husband. So well tended by his wife at all times was Jujaka the Brahmin!
3 Witnessing Amittada"s good manners, loyalty and the tender loving care she showed towards her aged husband as if he were her teacher and master, some young Brahmins reproached their own wives. " Do you not see how respectfully and attentively Amittada treats her aged husband, while you neglect to look after your own? they humiliated their wives with abuse and curses until the women resolved to drive Amittada out of their village, in the hope that she would leave old Jujaka and take in his place a younger man.
